Fujitsu to Sell Scanner Business to Ricoh

Nikkei Asia reports that Fujitsu will sell its scanner business to Ricoh for about 80 billion yen, or $625 million. The report notes that Fujitsu plans to focus on software development and will sell an 80% stake in its wholly owned subsidiary, PFU, a business scanner manufacturer.

Ricoh has focused heavily on a shift from hardware to services over the last couple of years, and according to Nikkei plans to build a service combining office equipment and image data processing by incorporating PFU’s products.

A formal announcement is expected by the end of the month.
