Nuance and NextGen Healthcare Partner

HIMSS Conference, Orlando – Nuance Communications, Inc. today announced that it has developed the only multi-functioning printer (MFP) scanning solution that allows users to scan documents directly into the NextGen Healthcare electronic healthcare records (EHR) document management system from a range of scanners and multi-function printers (MFP).

NextGen Healthcare Information Systems, LLC. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Quality Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: QSII) and a leading provider of healthcare information systems and connectivity solutions.

The Nuance NextGen Healthcare Connector integrates eCopy ShareScan, Nuance’s industry leading document workflow and scanning solution, and NextGen® Ambulatory EHR thereby eliminating the manual process of indexing electronic health records with keywords after scanning. The new solution accelerates paper capture at distributed points of care into the NextGen Ambulatory EHR and completes the patient record in the EHR to increase patient safety, raise physician satisfaction and streamline the EHR process for enhanced productivity.

To see a demonstration of the eCopy ShareScan NextGen integration and learn more about the solution as well as its benefits for clinics and hospitals, please visit Nuance at HIMSS in booth #3765 February 23-27.

The Nuance NextGen Healthcare Connector enables more efficient clinical workflow and patient care. In addition, it can assist healthcare organizations with meeting standards established by the U.S. government for meaningful use, which governs the use of electronic health records and allows eligible providers and hospitals to earn incentive payments based on specific criteria.

NextGen Healthcare optimizes document management for physician practices throughout the U.S. with its EHR software, which organizes digitized medical records and aids in practice management. The Nuance NextGen Healthcare Connector enables clinics and other healthcare facilities to use existing MFPs at or near the point of care. With a few simple button presses, a document can be scanned and indexed in the NextGen Ambulatory EHR for insertion in clinical workflows – giving providers nearly instantaneous access to paper-based information. Benefits include:

  • Quick and accurate indexing through dynamic patient and document type lookups at the MFP
  • Simplified processing with soft buttons tied to specific document types
  • Batch processing with barcodes and coversheets
  • More intuitive with standardized, easy-to-use interface across capture devices
  • Instantly searchable digital copies of paper records enabled by the industry’s leading OCR technology

“A vast network of clinics and associated healthcare environments rely on NextGen’s EHR to access, index and update electronic patient data,” said Michael Lovett, executive vice president and general manager for NextGen Healthcare. “With tools like the new Nuance NextGen Healthcare Connector, our customers can tackle the challenges created by incoming paper-based records more effectively and maximize their IT infrastructure by scanning records directly from their existing MFPs.”

eCopy ShareScan is the world’s best-selling document scanning and workflow solution for networked multifunction printers (MFPs) and scanners. The eCopy ShareScan application runs embedded on the market’s leading MFP vendors including Canon, HP, Konica Minolta, Ricoh and Xerox and uses scan to folder workflows for all other brands turning these devices into secure onramps to NextGen EHR workflows. eCopy ShareScan’s ability to support any brand MFP and nearly every device makes it a productive solution for clinics and healthcare organizations with single or mixed fleet environments.

“The natural integration between eCopy ShareScan and NextGen EHR Document Management System allows healthcare organizations to utilize document imaging to a much greater extent than in the past, extracting more business value from document conversion and scanning to fulfill the critical function of managing information within patient records,” said Michael Rich, executive vice president and general manager at Nuance Document Imaging.

The eCopy ShareScan NextGen Connector is available immediately through Nuance’s global channel of MFP vendors, partners, dealers, and professional services teams.
