Xerox Helping Florida County Improve Courts and Jury Processes
BRADENTON, Fla. — March 31, 2016 – Residents of Manatee County, Fla. can now expect a smoother and easier experience when they receive a jury summons. The Manatee County Clerk’s office, with Xerox’s AgileJury and eJuror software, offers jurors the option to complete much of the check-in process online and ahead of time, speeding up the process for the day-of check-in.
“AgileJury simplifies the jury administration process, from creating summonses to recording qualification to paying jurors,” said Louis Schiavone Jr., managing director for Xerox Local Government Solutions. “The system is straightforward and easy to navigate, and it allows clerks to focus on more crucial tasks like getting paperwork to judges faster.”
“In addition to streamlining the jury summons process, eJuror will save time for prospective jurors and enhance our office’s ability to communicate with jurors in a timely and efficient manner,” says Manatee County Clerk Angelina Colonneso.
Since implementing eJuror in January 2016, Manatee County reports an increase in the number of citizens summoned that are using the service, with many commenting on how easy it is to use. Jurors can complete and submit juror questionnaires, enter their biographical information, request service postponements and deferrals, upload supporting documentation and more, all online. This makes jury days more efficient, as jurors only need to confirm their name and address when arriving at the court check-in counter. Additionally, accuracy is improved because jurors enter and verify their own data online.
“We needed to upgrade our outdated jury services system, and we were looking to take advantage of online juror processing as well as possibly adding kiosks,” said Carole Pettijohn, director, Technology Services for the Manatee County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller. “We chose Xerox for its ability to handle multiple installations, support infrastructure, and quickly address any changes in jury requirements that might arise from legislative changes.”
Other clerk’s offices in Florida can take advantage of the work Xerox and Manatee County did to prepare for this implementation. Xerox now has a Florida baseline to start with, which means subsequent counties will only have a small subset of configuration items to handle.
